Alex Mendoza

Percussion

Alex Mendoza is a percussionist and educator based out of Austin, Texas. He holds an M.M. in Percussion Performance from Duquesne University, under the tutelage of Edward Stephan, and a B.M. from the University of North Texas in Music Education where he performed with the UNT Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, and various chamber/world ensembles.


During his time at both Duquesne and North Texas, he was a sought-after freelance percussionist, as both an educator and performer. He was a member of the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps Front Ensemble in 2012, 2013, and 2015. As an orchestral percussionist, he has attended the esteemed Aspen Music Festival in the summers of 2018 and 2019.


He has performed with the Dallas Symphony, Ft. Worth Symphony, Victoria Symphony, Johnstown Symphony, and Wheeling Symphony. Mendoza has been very fortunate to have been under the instruction of many renowned percussion educators/performers including John Soroka, Christopher Allen, Robert Schietroma, Mark Ford, Christopher Deane, Paul Rennick, Ed Smith, Jose Aponte, Cynthia Yeh, Doug Howard, and George Nickson. He is a member of the Percussive Arts Society and the Texas Music Educators Association.
