Matt Lawrence

Trombone

Matthew Lawrence, trombonist, currently lives in Kyle TX. He has been teaching trombone, baritone/euphonium, and tuba in the Hays CISD school district since 2001. He is currently teaching at Johnson High School, Hays High school, Dahlstrom MS, Barton MS, and McCormick MS. In the past he has taught in AISD and New Braunfels. Matthew Lawrence attended Blinn Jr. College in Brenham TX, then transferred to Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State). He held many leadership positions at both schools. He performed with the Bobcat Marching Band, trombone ensemble, jazz bands, Wind Ensemble, Orchestra and various small ensembles. Was also a member of Kappa Kappa Psi music fraternity. He graduated with honors with a Bachelors degree in Music Education and teachers certification.


After college Matthew Lawrence started teaching lessons full time while performing with various groups around Texas. He has performed with the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra, Austin Civic Orchestra, rock bands, top 40 groups, and small ensembles. He currently plays Principal Trombone in the Starlight Symphony Orchestra (Kyle, TX), and The 230 Big band at Texas State University (San Marcos, TX). His main passion is playing low brass instruments and teaching lessons. His students have had success at all levels. Junior high students consistently making All Region/Orchestra, high school students achieving District/Region/Area and State Honors. Success at solo and ensemble and State solo and ensemble. Matthew’s real goal is to teach the love of music and send quality musicians into college to continue their passion for music. Matthew Lawrence also attended Dahlstrom MS and Graduated from Hays HS!
